  • What is the ordering / design process?
The ordering & design process is as follows: 1. Design / Consult If you would like to order a single tier cake for a celebration, you can send me ideas from my Instagram page or any other sources so that I can understand what you are looking for. The sky is the limit when it comes to sources really! I generally do not provide sketches for single tier cakes. If you would like to order a wedding cake or a multiple-tier / larger cake, you can get in touch here or email me, as well as book a Tasting & Consultation. Please feel free to send me any ideas or references for your design requirements as well. Note that while I can take inspiration from other cake artists' designs or cakes, I will not copy their design. If you like the design that has been done by another local baker, I prefer that you go directly to them. Most of my clients will come to me because they like my aesthetic, which is why I always attempt to infuse my work with my own signature style. 2. Taste - for wedding clients or multiple-tier / larger cakes only Please refer to the section below on Tasting below for more information. 3. Sketch - for wedding clients or multiple-tier / larger cakes only After the Tasting & Consultation, a detailed wedding proposal with a design sketch & price quote will be sent for your consideration & approval. A 50-75% deposit is required to confirm the order & book the date. It is recommended to book your wedding cake 3 - 12 months before your wedding. 4. The minimum order is $350 for the smallest cake size available (single tier of 6 inches diameter which serves 12 persons / dessert size servings).
  • What are the prices for your cakes?
A guide to our starting prices is shown below: Please note that this table only serves as an initial guide & are based on the number of servings, not the number of tiers. There are also endless variations when it comes to the size / number of servings, style, colours, structure, decorative finishes & materials which will influence the price of a cake. In addition, please note that: The prices above are based on round cakes & the servings size table in the next FAQ below on sizing. Square cakes and double-barrel cakes (i.e. extra tall cakes) are also available - the prices for these cakes are generally 15-25% higher than for round cakes. The prices above are for cake design only & do not include additional items (e.g. cake toppers, delivery, cake stand rental, etc.) All my cakes are decorated with beautiful handcrafted sugar flowers or other edible decorations (e.g. wafer paper, rice paper, edible flowers, etc). I do not use fresh flowers to decorate my cakes as fresh flowers are laden with pesticides which are not food safe. Every cake is uniquely designed for each of my clients, who appreciate it as form of edible art that they cherish for the rest of their lives.
  • How do I determine the size of cake that I need?
Your cake can be served either as dessert size or coffee size for your wedding or celebration: Dessert size (around 1 inch x 2 inches x 4 inches) is recommended if your cake is the only dessert that is going to be served. Coffee size (around 1 inch x 1 inch x 4 inches) is recommended if your cake will be served with other desserts as well. Our cake sizes are fully customisable, so feel free to drop me an email & I would be happy to suggest suitable options for your event. You can also refer to the following table as a rough guide to determine the size of cake that you will need:
  • How big is the size of 1 serving of cake?

  • If I have a specific design in mind, will you be able to replicate it exactly for my cake?
I love incorporating my clients' design ideas & inspirations as part of the design & consultation process of their dream cake. However please expect that there will be some variations from reference images, as all my cakes are uniquely handcrafted. Many of my clients will also come to me because they respect my artistic vision & they have faith that I will execute the most memorable cake for them!
  • I would like to have a very impressive and tall cake, but I don't need to feed that many people. How can I achieve this?"
You can order 1-2 cake tiers in real cake, and the rest of the tiers in faux cake. The faux cake tiers will be decorated to match the rest of the cake. A cake that comprises of some faux tiers will generally 75% of the price of a cake that is all real, depending on the design. If you would like to have some faux tiers but you still need to feed a lot of guests, you can have 1 real cake tier (for the cake cutting ceremony) and the rest of the display cake can comprise of faux tiers. The guests will be served from sheet cakes provided by Haute Cakes in your selected flavour, which will be served by your caterers or serving staff.
  • I would like to have a specific number of tiers for my cake, but my event has more people than the recommended number of servings for the cake size. How can I ensure that all my guests can still enjoy a piece of cake?
In addition to your display cake (which can comprise of real and/or faux tiers), you can also order sheet cakes provided by Haute Cakes in your selected flavour. The sheet cake slices will be served by your caterers or serving staff, so all your guests can enjoy a slice of cake. This option is recommended for very large weddings of at least 500 guests.

  • Are your cakes certified halal?
    No, unfortunately they are not.
  • Are your cakes sweet?
Let's face it, cakes are made with sugar so they will always be sweet... plus a bit of sweetness tastes good as well! However our recipes have been developed to be significantly less sweet (around 20-50%) than most published recipes, so that they have the right balance that is not overpoweringly sweet & allows the flavours to shine through. If you prefer your cakes to be less sweet or light, you can consider the following options: - Have your cake covered with dark or milk chocolate ganache (which has less sugar because it is made with chocolate & cream); or - Choose a flavour that is made with a lighter sponge cake, instead of a classic butter cake or mud cake. - Choose to have fresh fruit in your cake instead of jams, conserves or caramels. If the level of sugar is a major concern, we can discuss various options or custom flavour combinations - feel free to drop me an email at info@hautecakes.co .
  • Do you make gluten free or vegan cakes?
Yes, we offer vegan cakes on our Flavour Menu. Please note that our products are prepared in an environment that contains milk, wheat, nuts & soy and are therefore not suitable for individuals with very severe allergies, e.g. celiac disease.
  • Can I have different flavours for the different tiers of my cake?
Yes, you can. There is a labour surcharge of $50 for each additional flavoured tier (i.e. if you have a 2-tier cake & you wish to have 2 different flavours for each tier, the labour surcharge is $50).
  • How do I place or confirm an order?
Custom Cakes: 100% payment is required to secure the order, and is due upon receipt of the invoice by the client. Wedding Cakes: In order to secure the order, the client is required to pay a 50-75% deposit. A contract and invoice will also be sent to you to confirm the services. The remaining 25-50% will be due on the delivery date.
  • What are your payment terms?
For orders below $1,000, full payment is due upon receipt of the invoice. For orders above $1,000, 75% payment is due upon receipt of the invoice & the remainder is due upon delivery. Please note that payment is required to confirm all orders.
  • Why do cakes with more / multiple tiers cost so much more?
Cakes with multiple tiers are more complicated to execute, as they need to be stacked and handled in a specific manner to ensure that the structure of the final tiered cakes are stable and can last for the duration of the event. Delivery and setup considerations for multiple tier cakes are also more complex. Therefore the labour, costs and lead time required for multiple tier cakes are much higher than for single tier cakes.
  • Can I cancel my cake order after it has been confirmed and I have paid my deposit?
Please note that all confirmed & paid sales are final. Changes or cancellations for confirmed & paid orders will not be accepted with less than 72 hrs notice (for single-tier cakes). For multiple tier cakes, I will need a minimum of 1 month notice if you wish to cancel your order. A 30% cancellation fee will be applied for any cancellations of confirmed & paid orders. The remaining amount will be retained as store credit. Full or partial refunds are not provided.
  • I have booked a workshop but I can't make it on that date now. Can I still cancel my class?
All confirmed & paid workshop bookings are non-refundable & non-exchangeable. If you are unable to make it for the class on the scheduled day & time, I will try my best to secure a slot for you in future workshops. • What is the best environment for my cake during my event? Do I need to place my cake in an air-conditioned room?
In the hot & humid weather of Singapore, the best environment for your buttercream or fondant cake to be displayed during your event is definitely an airconditioned room. Buttercream cakes are best consumed within 1-1.5 hours after they have been taken out of the refridgerator & placed in an airconditioned environment. Fondant cakes can last in an airconditioned room for slightly longer, around 1.5-2 hours in an airconditioned environment. Fondant cakes that are placed in a very humid environment for too long will start to 'sweat' due to the condensation forming on the surface of the fondant.
  • Can my cake be placed in an outdoor setting?
Whether your cake can withstand being outdoors in the hot & humid weather in Singapore, depends on several factors: (i) The time of your event - The temperature in the evening / night is much lower than the daytime, so your cake may be able to last outdoors in the evening for a longer time. For buttercream cakes, I do not recommend having your cake outdoors in the evening / night for longer than 30 minutes - 1 hour maximum before you consume the cake. Buttercream cakes should not be left outdoors during the daytime in Singapore. Fondant cakes can generally last longer, however I do not recommend leaving fondant cakes out in the open for longer than 30 minutes (in the daytime) and 1.5 hours (in the night time), provided that your cakes are in a sheltered place. (ii) The setup details of your event - Cakes are obviously very delicate, so if you wish to place your cake outdoors, it should always be set up in a location that is covered / sheltered from the elements (e.g. sun, wind, etc.). (iii) The design, structure & color scheme of your cake - Fondant cakes will hold up better in outdoor locations. Lighter color schemes will also be a safer options if you wish to have your cake placed outdoors. If your event will be held mostly outdoors and you want your cake to be placed outdoors for a much longer time, you can always choose to have the majority of your decorated cake comprise of faux tiers, and just 1 real tier for cake cutting. Your guests will be served from sheet cakes by provided by Haute Cakes in your selected flavour, which will be served by your caterers or serving staff. Please feel free to email me to address your needs or concerns, & we can work together to ensure that all your requirements are met.
  • How long can I keep my cake out at room temperature before consuming?
Our cakes are either decorated with fondant, ganache or Swiss meringue buttercream. 1. Fondant Covered Cakes: Your cake will be delivered to you directly chilled from the fridge. Fondant cakes are best kept in an air-conditioned room. If your venue is not air-conditioned, it is best to leave it out for 1 hour at the most. Please note that if you leave out the cake for longer, the fondant may start to 'sweat' due to the condensation that is forming on the cake due to Singapore's humid weather. 2. Buttercream or Ganache Covered Cakes: Your cake will be delivered to you directly chilled from the fridge, so it should be left to soften at room temperature for at least 1 hour (without air conditioning) or 2-3 hours (in a cold air-conditioned room). Our cakes are frosted with Italian meringue buttercream or ganache, which contains butter or chocolate that hardens in the fridge, therefore it needs about anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours to soften to room temperature before you consume it. It is the customers' responsibility to ensure that the venue has proper storage conditions for the cake. If you need information on the cake box size, or any other details to ensure proper storage, please do not hesitate to email me or call me at +65-83228358 for assistance. We would not be held responsible if the venue does not have proper conditions to store the cake.
  • My cake has sugar decorations (e.g. fondant, gum paste) on it and I need to keep the cake in a fridge some time before my event. How should I store my cake?"
If your cake contains fondant pieces or sugar decorations, you should remove them from your cake & pack them in a covered box with some bubble wrap or tissue paper. Do not put your sugar decorations in the fridge uncovered, because the condensation that forms on the decorations will cause them to melt. Alternatively you can store the entire cake box (which has been sealed to prevent outside air from touching the cake & decorations) in the fridge. Ideally it is recommended that you have your cake delivered 1-2 hours before cake cutting time, and that your venue has air-conditioning if possible. If you are unsure about what to do, please email me with your concerns, or call me at +65-83228358. It is the customer's responsibility to clarify this with Haute Cakes as all our cake designs are customised & each customer has different requirements and venues.
